IPL works best on darker hair colours combined with lighter skin tones. It is not suitable for white, grey, red or pale golden hair. The table below shows which combinations are suitable — an ✗ means not suitable, and a number (e.g. 3/4/5) indicates the recommended intensity levels to use.

Yes. The Véla IPL Hair Removal Device™ is designed for at-home use and features 9 adjustable energy levels, allowing you to choose a setting that feels comfortable for each area. First-time users should always start at Level 1.
Most users describe the sensation as mild warmth or light tingling. The built-in Ice-Cooling Technology helps cool the skin during treatment for a more comfortable experience.
When used correctly, IPL is designed to target the hair follicle while keeping the treatment comfortable for the skin. Always follow the instructions, avoid irritated or damaged skin, and do not flash the same spot repeatedly.
If your skin is sensitive, begin with the lowest intensity level and increase gradually only when comfortable. Do not use the device on sunburned, irritated or damaged skin.
IPL is not suitable for everyone. Do not use the device if you have a skin perception disorder, allergic dermatitis, eczema or other active skin diseases. It is also not recommended for people with an allergic constitution, those who are pregnant or menstruating, women who are breastfeeding, or anyone who has been exposed to significant sunlight in the past 2 weeks.
We do not recommend using IPL during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Please consult your healthcare professional before use.
For best results, avoid excessive sun exposure for 24–48 hours after treatment. Apply sunscreen to any treated area that may be exposed to sunlight. Note that you should also avoid using the device if you have had significant sun exposure in the 2 weeks prior to treatment.
The Véla IPL Hair Removal Device™ can be used on areas such as legs, arms, underarms, bikini area, face and body. Use Auto Glide Mode for larger areas and Manual Mode for smaller, more precise areas. Do not use on the nipples, areola, vagina, anus, nostrils or ears.
Treatment time depends on the area. Underarms can take around 1 minute, bikini area around 2 minutes, arms around 4 minutes, legs around 4 minutes and back around 3 minutes. A full-body treatment can be completed in as little as 15 minutes.
Yes — preparation is important for both safety and results. Shave the treatment area beforehand and wet the hair first (ideally with soap or shower gel lather) for a cleaner shave. After shaving, make sure the skin is completely clean, dry and free from lotions, oils, aloe gel, deodorant or any other products — these can interfere with the light output. Before your very first session, always perform a skin test: apply a flash to a small area near the treatment zone at the lowest intensity and wait 24 hours to check for any reaction before proceeding.
Follow these steps for a safe and effective treatment:
- Clean the light outlet with a cotton swab or alcohol-dipped cloth before use. Keep the light outlet dry.
- Plug in the device and hold the on/off button for 3 seconds until it starts up and the function key lights up.
- Double-click the on key to select your mode. Then press the on key to adjust the intensity level — Level 1 is lowest, Level 5 is highest.
- Press the treatment window firmly against your skin. The function key will flash continuously to confirm contact. Press the trigger to emit a flash.
- For larger areas, hold the trigger for 3 seconds to activate Auto Glide Mode. Move slowly — do not flash the same spot more than twice in a row.
- After treatment, you may optionally apply aloe gel. Hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn off. Clean any residue from the lamp cap filter with alcohol.
Yes, this is completely normal. Mild redness or slight swelling immediately after treatment is a common skin response and will typically disappear on its own within a short time. If the sensation persists or feels severe, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.
Yes. The device becoming warm during operation is completely normal and expected. If the device overheats and shuts down, the indicator light will go out and the cooling fan will start. Simply allow the device to cool for 15 minutes before switching it back on and continuing your treatment.
After using the device for 2 hours, you may apply emulsion, cream, fragrance agent, moisturising product or cosmetics to the treated area. Avoid applying any product directly to the skin if it is still tingling or feels red — wait for these sensations to fully disappear first. If any tingling persists after applying a product, rinse the area with water immediately.
After each session, you may optionally apply aloe gel to soothe the treated area. Avoid sun exposure for 24–48 hours and apply sunscreen if the area will be exposed. Do not use photosensitive foods (such as spinach, rape, mustard or celery) during the treatment period. Keep up with moisturising and sunscreen after each flash.
Yes. A faint smell during treatment is typically caused by hair on the skin surface reacting to the light. Make sure the treatment area is fully clean and free of any hair on the surface before use. If the smell is strong or unusual, stop and check that the skin is properly prepared.
